Wow. This video, short and straight to the point, is a powerful source of encouragement. It is true what Ira Glass says about nobody telling beginners that it is going to take a while for the "gap" to close. I also agree that this is why many beginners quit or get stuck. Beginners, such as myself, are so inspired and fired up to start a piece of work that they are blinded to the see the reality which cycles around accomplishments and
failures; when beginners experience a disappointment most tend to perceive it as kill joy rather than a stepping stone (including myself).
I have remained a beginner at my two interests: acrylic painting and guitar playing. They have become more like former hobbies because I have not kept up with practice (shame on me). I loved what Glass said about making deadlines each week or month for our pieces of work. It is true: continuous effort eventually builds up something that is worth it.
This video has motivated me to do something to close my "gap".
