The Photoshop Effect

Photoshop retouching has gone out of control. As the photographer mentioned in the video, celebrities use retouching all the time. We see it everywhere within the media: front cover magazines, movie posters, Google images, etc.

The retouching of photos has created an unreachable shape of perfection. The tweaks editors make aren't that drastic at times; however, they have the potential to display a supernatural beauty.  I do not think that young girls and women realize that the goddess-like beauty they see in a front cover magazine isn't quite genuine. You would think that with the information that is available to us we would know better, but most of us don't understand what the phrase "It is Photoshoped" really implies, how it has the power to make someone look ten years younger or how it can make you thinner or thicker.

The over-use of retouching has distorted the sense of beauty for males and females. This does not just affect the ordinary public though. It also affects those who are being retouched. Sure, it is a delight to be labeled as aesthetically beautiful, but I don't think it is all that great to feel like 'the tweaks are the magic, not me'. We are no longer okay with our natural God given beauty, and that is not good for our self-esteem.
